New Hero: William Tell(SX30) — Complete Hero Review

The New Fire Archer and His Synergy with Seraphina and Helsingen
William Tell brings a different kind of Archer gameplay to Rise of Castles. Rather than relying only on direct burst damage, his kit combines Burning Damage, a hit-based trigger, immediate Burn Settlement, defensive protection, and Troop Power recovery.
His design becomes even more interesting when paired with Seraphina and Helsingen, two other Archer heroes built around Fire and Burn-related mechanics.
This article looks at William Tell individually first, then examines how his mechanics interact with the broader Fire-based Archer core.
William Tell Overview
William Tell is an Archer Hero positioned in the Front, with a kit that combines offensive pressure and team support.
His Level 10 passive attributes provide:
SK3: 50% Resistance
SK4: 50% Might
SK6: 15% Might and Resistance
SK6: 15% HP
His Legion bonuses provide:
40% Resistance
His three active mechanics are built around a very clear structure:
Scorching Flame creates repeated Burn pressure.
Flame of Revenge transforms accumulated hits into another Burn event and Settlement.
Guardian Flame provides protection and recovery for Archer squads.
That combination gives William an unusual role: he contributes both damage pressure and defensive utility.
SK2 — Scorching Flame
The core mechanic
Scorching Flame prevents William Tell's squad from performing normal attacks.
Instead, each time his squad acts, William deals Burning Damage to 1–3 random enemy squads and applies Null-Heal for one round.
At Level 10, the Burning Damage reaches:
240%
The skill has a range of 3 and can affect up to three random enemy squads.
The important detail is that William replaces his normal attack behavior with a recurring skill-based attack pattern.
That creates a different tempo from conventional Archer heroes.
Instead of:
Normal Attack → Normal Attack → Normal Attack
William's squad operates around:
Act → Burning Damage → Null-Heal → Act again
This makes Scorching Flame the foundation of his gameplay.
Why Null-Heal Matters
Null-Heal adds another dimension to Scorching Flame.
William is not simply damaging enemy squads.
He is simultaneously applying a recovery restriction.
This means the value of the skill comes from two separate components:
Damage pressure
and
recovery denial
That combination is particularly relevant in prolonged fights, where preventing recovery can make repeated Burning Damage more meaningful.
SK5 — Flame of Revenge
Flame of Revenge is the defining tempo mechanic of William Tell.
The skill activates after William has taken damage 6 times.
Once the threshold is reached:
the counter resets;
William targets 2 random enemy squads;
he applies Burning Damage;
the Burn is immediately followed by a Burning Settlement.
At Level 10, the Burning Damage is:
210%
The counter is cumulative during combat and resets after activation.
This creates an internal combat loop:

This is one of the most important aspects of William Tell's design.
His SK5 isn't simply another damage skill.
It is a combat-cycle mechanic.
Burn + Settlement
The interaction between Burn and Settlement is especially important.
The source data places the two effects in this order:
Burn → Settlement
That means William first places the Burning effect and then executes the Settlement.
This gives Flame of Revenge its distinctive behavior.
The Settlement is not simply a generic damage event detached from the newly applied Burn. The sequence itself is part of the skill's design.
As a result, William can turn a newly established Fire state into an immediate additional combat event.
That is what makes SK5 much more interesting than its 210% coefficient alone would suggest.
SK8 — Guardian Flame
Guardian Flame gives William another identity entirely.
At the beginning of battle, allied Archer squads receive:
8 stacks of Flame Guard
At Level 10, each stack reduces Physical Damage taken by 10%.
With eight stacks, that represents a total 80% Physical Damage reduction from the Flame Guard component.
William also receives:
8 Blessing charges
Each time William acts, one Blessing charge is consumed.
The Blessing effect then recovers Troop Power for 1–3 random allied squads, with a Level 10 recovery rate of:
175%
This creates a powerful defensive layer around the Archer formation.
Guardian Flame Is More Than a Defensive Skill
The interesting part of Guardian Flame is that the two halves of the skill complement one another.
Flame Guard
Protects allied Archers.
Blessing
Restores Troop Power over time.
Therefore, William provides both:
damage mitigation
and
sustain
rather than offering only one defensive effect.
This is especially relevant because William is positioned in the Front.
His presence therefore contributes to the durability of the Archer formation while he continues operating his offensive mechanics.
William Tell's Overall Combat Identity
When the three skills are viewed together, William Tell can be understood as a tempo-based Fire Archer.
His gameplay follows several simultaneous loops:
Offensive loop = {
Act
↓
Burn
↓
Null-Heal
↓
Continue Pressure
}
Revenge loop = {
Take Damage
↓
6-Hit Counter
↓
Flame of Revenge
↓
Burn
↓
Settlement
↓
Counter Reset
}
Defensive loop = {
Flame Guard
↓
Physical Damage Reduction
↓
Blessing Consumption
↓
Troop Power Recovery
}
This is why reducing William Tell to a simple "Burn Hero" misses an important part of his design.
His kit is built around pressure, timing, conversion, and sustain.
William Tell and Seraphina
The synergy with Seraphina is easy to understand once both kits are viewed through their Fire mechanics.
Seraphina's kit includes:
Burn application;
On-Fire conditional effects;
Firearm Mark;
reactive Redflame mechanics;
additional Burning Damage.
Her SK2, Crimson Tide Fire Rain, applies Burn and can trigger 1 round of Silence when the target is already On Fire.
This creates an important interaction model.
William can establish Burning targets.
Seraphina can then interact with targets that are already On Fire.
However, this should not be interpreted as a strict dependency where one hero must always act before the other.
Both heroes have their own mechanisms for creating Fire-related states.
The synergy comes from shared combat conditions, not from one hero being completely dependent on the other.
Seraphina's SK5 and William
Seraphina's Firearm Brand adds another layer to the Fire system.
The skill applies Burning Damage to 1–3 random enemy squads and applies Firearm Mark.
Firearm Mark becomes especially relevant when interacting with Dark Crossbow Mark, the corresponding mechanic used by Helsingen.
This means Seraphina forms a bridge between William's Burn-focused mechanics and the Mark interactions shared with Helsingen. Seraphina's SK8 — Redflame Curse
Redflame Curse is the defensive-reactive component of Seraphina's kit.
Instead of waiting for Seraphina herself to attack, the skill activates when an allied Archer squad takes damage. The attacker is then affected by Redflame, and there is also a chance to apply an additional Burn effect.
At Level 10, Redflame provides:
20% increased Physical Damage taken per stack
20% increased Tactical Damage taken per stack
up to 4 stacks
a 50% chance to apply the additional Burning effect
Burning Damage reaching 180%
maximum 5 Burn stacks
Why Redflame is important
The key difference between Redflame and Seraphina's other Fire mechanics is that Redflame is reactive.
Seraphina doesn't need to be the one attacking.
The sequence is:
Allied Archer takes damage → attacker is punished → Redflame stacks → possible Burn
That gives Seraphina a form of retaliatory scaling.
At Level 10, the maximum four Redflame stacks represent a potentially very large increase in the damage that the affected attacker receives.
This makes Redflame especially interesting in a team that expects the enemy to repeatedly attack its Archer formation.
William Tell and Helsingen
Helsingen also operates heavily inside the Fire/Burn system.
His major mechanics include:
Nightshadow Scorching Arrow
70% chance;
2 random enemy targets;
Burn;
immediate Burning Settlement sequence.
At Level 10:
285% Burn
Dark Crossbow Brand
1–3 random enemy targets;
Burning Damage;
Dark Crossbow Mark.
At Level 10:
213% Burn
Blackflame Curse
Helsingen reacts to damage taken by allied Archers and applies Fire-related effects to the attacker.
Blackflame can reduce the attacker's damage output, while Flammable can increase the amount of Burning Damage taken.
This adds a different dimension to the Fire system.
William is generating repeated pressure.
Helsingen is creating additional status-based punishment around that pressure.
The Fire Archer Core
When the three heroes are placed together, the overall structure looks like this:

The three heroes therefore share a common mechanical language.
But they do not perform exactly the same job.
What William Adds to Seraphina + Helsingen
This is where William becomes particularly interesting.
Seraphina and Helsingen already provide a strong Fire-oriented offensive identity.
William adds several mechanics that are different:
1. Hit-based progression
His six-hit counter introduces a recurring trigger that the other two do not reproduce in the same way.
2. Null-Heal
Scorching Flame adds direct recovery denial.
3. Flame Guard
William provides a strong defensive component to allied Archer squads.
4. Blessing
He adds Troop Power recovery.
5. Settlement through Flame of Revenge
His six-hit trigger creates another Burn/Settlement cycle.
So William doesn't simply add "more Burn."
He adds another layer of tempo and sustainability to the Fire composition.
Recommended Hero Combinations
William Tell can be used in a wide range of Archer formations, but his value changes significantly depending on the heroes supporting his Burn mechanics, his defensive package, and his hit-based Flame of Revenge cycle.
The combinations below focus on the different ways William can be built around rather than treating every Archer lineup as equivalent. The analysis is based on the current engine implementations and the combo investigation provided.
William Tell + Seraphina + Helsingen
This is the most complete Fire-oriented combination for William Tell.
Helsingen's Blackflame Curse can reduce the damage dealt by attackers and potentially increase the Burning Damage they receive, directly reinforcing William's Burn output. At the same time, Seraphina's Redflame Curse punishes enemies that attack allied Archers by increasing the damage they take. Seraphina's Firearm Mark and Helsingen's Dark Crossbow Mark also create an additional Settlement interaction when both marks overlap.
The result is a composition built around several connected mechanics:
Burn → vulnerability → additional Burn pressure → Mark interaction → Settlement
William also provides Flame Guard to the Archer formation, giving the entire lineup an additional defensive layer.
This combination is particularly interesting because the three heroes contribute different parts of the same Fire ecosystem rather than simply repeating the same effect.
William Tell + Robin Hood + Seraphina
This combination shifts the focus toward speed, skill amplification and controlled Fire pressure.
With Robin Hood positioned in the middle, his Swift Ranger mechanics can accelerate William Tell in the Front while providing a skill-damage bonus to Seraphina in the Back. Robin Hood also provides additional Archer offensive support through Hawk Eye and his own burst damage.
The main advantage is the interaction between tempo and positioning.
William acting earlier allows his Burning pressure to be established before incoming attacks, while Seraphina benefits from Robin Hood's skill-oriented support.
Robin Hood's additional healing also reduces some of the pressure on William's limited Blessing charges.
This makes the combination less focused on pure Burn amplification than the William + Seraphina + Helsingen core, but more focused on initiative and overall skill tempo.
William Tell + Robin Hood + Helsingen
This variation replaces Seraphina with Helsingen and therefore places greater emphasis on Burn consistency and Blackflame mechanics.
Robin Hood continues to provide the positional and speed advantages, while Helsingen adds another recurring source of Burning Damage through Dark Crossbow Brand.
Helsingen's Blackflame Curse also reinforces William's Burn mechanics by increasing the pressure placed on enemies affected by the Fire system.
Compared with the Seraphina version, this setup sacrifices some of the specific Mark synergy between Seraphina and Helsingen but gains a stronger emphasis on repeated Burn application.
William Tell + Ramses II + Seraphina
This is the more defensive interpretation of the Fire composition.
Ramses II introduces a heavy defensive layer during the opening rounds, while his Fatal Blow mechanics create a scaling damage component as the battle progresses. His later double-attack mechanic can also increase how quickly Seraphina applies her Fire-related effects.
William contributes:
Flame Guard + Burn + Null-Heal + Blessing
while Ramses provides:
early damage mitigation + Fatal Blow scaling + additional sustain
and Seraphina maintains:
Burn + Redflame + Firearm Mark
This makes the lineup less dependent on the triple-Fire status ecosystem and more oriented toward survivability followed by increasing offensive pressure.
William Tell + Ramses II + Helsingen
This version keeps William and Helsingen together while using Ramses as the defensive core.
Ramses provides the early defensive structure, while Helsingen supplies additional Burn pressure and Blackflame mechanics. The combination also benefits from Ramses' double-attack window, which can increase the frequency of Helsingen's offensive skill activity.
Compared with the Seraphina variant, this setup places greater emphasis on Burn volume and defensive stability, while giving up some of the Firearm Mark/Dark Crossbow Mark interaction.
William Tell + Al-Hawra + Seraphina
This combination introduces a different style of gameplay through control and skill amplification.
Al-Hawra can temporarily prevent an enemy from dealing damage, provide a substantial temporary offensive bonus to an ally, and enhance Archer combat skills through Desert Phantom. Seraphina's SK2 is a Combat-type skill and therefore fits that interaction.
There is also an interesting limitation here:
William's SK2 is implemented as a PRE_BATTLE skill that executes on his turn, so it does not receive the same Desert Phantom Combat-skill interaction identified for Seraphina.
This makes the combination more about Seraphina amplification and battlefield control than directly multiplying William's own Burn.
William Tell + Nicolas Flamel + Seraphina
This is a more specialized Fire combination.
Nicolas Flamel introduces an explicit Flammable mechanic that can increase the Burning Damage dealt to affected enemies. His kit also adds another Burn source and additional recovery-reduction effects.
The resulting composition can create:
William Burn + Flammable amplification + Seraphina Fire mechanics + additional anti-recovery pressure
The main consideration is that Nicolas Flamel is currently classified as an older/outdated hero in the engine dataset, so this combination is better understood as a specialized alternative rather than the primary modern Fire core.
William Tell + Oliver + Seraphina
Oliver provides an alternative damage profile.
When operating with Archer troops, he benefits from William's Flame Guard while contributing substantial Tactical Damage through Strike of Light. His own defensive mechanics also allow him to become more durable as combat progresses.
This creates a hybrid team:
William Burn + Oliver Tactical Damage + Seraphina Burn
The drawback is that the composition has relatively little direct Physical Damage pressure, making it more dependent on its skill-based and Fire-oriented output.
William Tell + Robin Hood + Ramses II
This is the clearest option when you want to use William without Seraphina or Helsingen.
All three are Archers, allowing William's Flame Guard to support the entire formation.
Robin Hood contributes speed and Archer offensive support, while Ramses provides defensive stability and Fatal Blow scaling. William remains the team's primary Fire/Burn source.
The important difference is that this is not a dedicated Fire composition.
Instead, it becomes a more balanced team built around:
survivability + speed + burst + William's Burn
William's Burn therefore becomes a supporting source of pressure rather than the center of a larger Fire ecosystem.
Strengths
Continuous Pressure
William does not depend entirely on a single burst window.
His SK2 creates recurring Burning Damage while SK5 introduces another trigger-based source of pressure.
Combined with Seraphina and Helsingen, the team can maintain a strong Fire-oriented offensive identity.
Strong Status-Based Gameplay
The trio's mechanics are highly interconnected.
Burn, On Fire conditions, Marks and Settlement all appear within the same broader ecosystem.
For players who enjoy mechanics-driven teams, this makes the composition particularly interesting.
Strong Defensive Layer
William's Guardian Flame changes the balance of the composition.
The eight Flame Guard stacks provide Physical Damage protection for allied Archers, while Blessing provides recurring Troop Power recovery.
This means William contributes to the team's survival without sacrificing his offensive identity.
Recovery Denial
Scorching Flame adds Null-Heal to William's offensive rotation.
This makes the skill relevant even beyond its Burning Damage component.
Long-Fight Potential
The combination of recurring Burn pressure, the six-hit trigger and Guardian Flame gives William mechanics that remain relevant throughout the battle.
His contribution is therefore distributed across the fight rather than concentrated entirely into one event.
Weaknesses and Considerations
Timing Matters
The three heroes operate through different triggers.
Some mechanics occur when a hero acts.
Others are reactive.
Others depend on hit accumulation or status conditions.
Therefore, their effectiveness is influenced by combat timing and sequencing.
Strong Fire Specialization
The biggest structural characteristic of the trio is also its main consideration:
A large portion of their offensive identity is built around related Fire/Burn mechanics.
That makes the composition highly coherent, but also means that its performance depends heavily on the effectiveness of those mechanics in the specific combat environment.
Multiple Random Target Mechanics
Several of the skills select random targets.
William's SK2 can target 1–3 enemies.
His SK5 selects two random enemy squads.
Seraphina and Helsingen also contain random-target mechanics.
This means individual battles can produce different target distributions even when the same heroes and skill levels are used.
William Tell's Biggest Differentiator
The most important distinction is this:
William Tell is not just another Archer who deals Burning Damage.
His kit combines Burning Damage, Null-Heal, a six-hit counter, Settlement, Physical Damage protection and Troop Power recovery.
That gives him a hybrid role that combines offensive pressure with defensive utility.
And this is exactly what makes him such a natural addition to a Fire-focused Archer core.
Final Analysis
William Tell introduces a Fire-oriented Archer design based on recurring combat cycles rather than isolated damage events.
His SK2 establishes continuous Burning pressure while preventing normal attacks.
His SK5 turns incoming-hit accumulation into a recurring Burn → Settlement event.
His SK8 protects allied Archers and provides a limited but meaningful source of Troop Power recovery.
When combined with Seraphina and Helsingen, the result is a highly interconnected Fire-based Archer composition built around:
Burn → On Fire → Status Interaction → Mark → Settlement → Continued Pressure
The important point is that the three heroes are not simply copies of one another.
William Tell brings tempo and sustain.
Seraphina brings Fire-based conditional mechanics and reactive pressure.
Helsingen adds additional Burn, Mark and Fire-status interactions.
Together, they form a specialized Archer core whose identity comes from how their mechanics interact, rather than simply from the individual damage coefficients of their skills.
Note:
Since the skill descriptions have disappeared from the game—and there is a possibility of a rework for the X30 hero's skills—we will update this article if there are significant changes to this hero's mechanics.
